“Mark Nanos’s Impact on New Testament Studies 30 Years On”
A Roundtable of Papers and Panel Discussion at the Society of Biblical Literature Annual Meeting: Paul within Judaism Section
Boston, Nov 22, 2025; Session S22-321: 4:00 PM - 6:30
I am honored to announce that my work and its impact on New Testament studies will be the focus of a session at the 2025 Society of Biblical Literature Annual Meeting in Boston, Sat. Nov. 22. The organizers of the session describe the theme in this manner:"In the nearly 30 years since the publication of Mark Nanos’s The Mystery of Romans, the field has witnessed a massive reassessment of New Testament texts in relation to ancient Judaism, due in no small part to Nanos’s influence. The panelists in this session will consider that influence in their own particular areas of study, and Nanos will give a response."
The Panelists are:
Genevive Dibley (Rockford University)
Kathy Ehrensperger (University of Basel)
Matthew Novenson (Princeton Theological Seminary)
Isaac Oliver (Bradley University)
Sara Parks (Saint Francis Xavier University)
John Van Maaren (University of Vienna)
I will offer a Response, followed by Discussion
I don't have words to express the level of surprise or the pleasure that this honor represents. Wow, will have to do here. I am deeply grateful to those who proposed and planned this event, and to those who will engage my work in this venue. I hope you can share the moment with me; if not, I hope I will be able to record the session and make it available in an update to this blog posting, or in a future one.
